How to make my Dell Inspiron E1405 run faster?

I want to install windows vista and microsoft word 2007 onto my dell. But i do not want that to make my computer run any slower. So do i need to put more memory or anything onto my computer so that does not happen?

Windows Vista is a resource hog. If you want to keep your computer running close to its current level, the first thing you need to upgrade (and luckily a relatively cheap upgrade) is your RAM (memory). I would say at least 2 GB worth.

As far as Word 2007 goes, that will run well on pretty much anything.
