How do you know when to bring a lap top to class?

Im sure I wont need it for anything 101. But why would people bring their lap top to college? Do some classes require it? Does this mostly apply to pre med or pre law? Stuff like that?

Well, I’ve never had a class that required a laptop, but I have brought mine to certain classes. Sometimes it’s just easier for me to take notes on a laptop, since I type much faster than I write, and it makes your notes very neat. It’s also a nice way to save some money and trees. On the other hand I never use a laptop to take notes for classes that I have to draw a lot of diagrams in, because it’s just too much work to type in my laptop and draw on paper and then scan it, or draw a really horrible drawing using my laptop touchpad.

Pre-med and pre-law don’t need laptops more than anyone else does, in general it’s just personal preference. There may be classes that require them, but I’ve never taken one, or even heard of one, and I’m pre-med.

Also, many people bring laptops to class so they can talk online, surf the web and otherwise keep themselves from getting too bored. I wouldn’t recommend bringing your computer to class if you think you’ll be tempted to distract yourself, might as well just stay in your room and surf the web.

Oh, and I’ve used mine to record lectures as I type when I have extremely fast lecturers.
Don’t worry, if you do ever NEED your computer, your professor will tell you on the first day, on the day before you need it, or it will be written in the syllabus. Hope that helps!
