How can I upgrade my Pentium 3 on my laptop to something better?
I have a HP laptop VZ 5000 with a Pentium 3. I want something better. can I do this myself or do I need someone to do this for me.
Unless the system was especially made modular for changes, it is impossible to upgrade a laptop. You would be better served to check for an entire new model as it will help your sanity and you will not be pulling your hair out. 
Figure out how much money you would have put in upgrades and you will probably find out that you can get a new laptop for not much more.
Here is my two cents: I will not suggest a particular model but I will tell you this, stay away from netbooks at the moment because they are limited in expansion so not a good choice at their current price.
As laptop specs change often, it is good to get non-vendor information so you should do some checking on these review/guide sites to help fine tune your search.
At each site, check the basic guides at first and then you can choose different options using boxes and drop down menus to customize the search and get what you want in your laptop ( there is even a way on some of those sites to look by inputting the budget (price you are willing to pay) to get choices which won’t blow up your wallet ).
Your time will not be wasted (after all, you get all this from the comfort of your home) and you should find something to your liking and budget.
